As a service to members, NYG&B volunteers and interns will look up records in ten repositories across New York.
How It Works
NYG&B members are invited to submit a specific request for a photocopy of a document that they have identified in the collections of the Milstein Division of the New York Public Library, the Municipal Archives of New York City, the National Archives - New York, New-York Historical Society, the New York State Archives and Library in Albany, the Onondaga County Library, the Syracuse University Library, the Oswego State Library, and the Oswego Public LIbrary. You can view a guide to the first four repositories here . The request must include sufficient details for our volunteer to locate the document and make copies. In the case of a book, that means title, author, and specific information sought. In the case of a record – e.g. genealogy excerpt, birth certificate, passenger arrival record –that means all relevant names, dates, and locations.
Payment and Timing
There is a $10 service fee per repository, plus the cost of photocopying and any repository fees. Up to three documents may be copied at a single repository. Requests will be handled in the order they are received. Our projected response time is four- six weeks.
