Phyllis Kramer will address many of the questions associated with the immigrant voyage: How did immigrants obtain their tickets? Which ports did they leave from and how did they get to them? What travel documents were required? What were the voyages like? How did American laws affect immigration? She’ll also discuss locating and understanding ships’ manifests, including their notations and hard-to-read handwriting.
A former business consultant for IBM and now JewishGen’s VP of Education, Phyllis received IAJGS’s 2011 Outstanding Contribution Award in recognition of her role in establishing JewishGen’s Learning Center.
