Title: Huntington, L.I. - How to Find Records of Servants of Wealthy Families?
Description: My great-grandparents, Edmund O'Connell and Annie Boylan, were married in NYC in 1895. On the marriage certificate, they both list their residence as Huntington, L.I. I know Annie worked for a while as an upstairs maid, after she immigrated from Ireland. I'm wondering if she and Edmund worked in the same household or for neighboring families. He may have been a chauffeur. In later years, he owned his own hansom cab in Manhattan. Did wealthy families keep records of their servants? If so, how would I find any that pertain to households in Huntington in the mid-1890s? Thanks!
