Indexes to NYG&B Periodicals
The NYG&B has two periodical publications, its journal, The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, published continuously since 1870, as well as quarterly magazine, the New York Researcher (formerly the NYG&B Newsletter). All NYG&B members have access to the entire run of The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record and the New York Researcher (and its predecessor the NYG&B Newsletter) online. Members and non-members may use the various indexes to our publications to help them locate articles.
The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record
Published continuously since 1870, the entire run of The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record comprises more than 500 issues and forms the largest single collection of published material on families that lived in New York State. NYG&B Members have online access to every issue of The Record.
You are invited to Search Worden's Index, which contains over one million names that have appeared in The Record. This comprehensive names index, originally created by Mrs. Jean D. Worden and updated annually by NYG&B volunteers and interns, provides an invaluable research tool.
Every October, an annual index to names that have appeared in a volume is released. In addition, the NYG&B has published several specialized indexes to The Record, which provide valuable assistance to the researcher:
Published by Mrs. Jean D. Worden in 1983, this book is a subject index to articles that appeared in The Record from 1870-1982. While it includes many index references to individuals, it is not meant to be a full name index. Click to browse or search this index.
compiled by Harry Macy Jr., FASG, FGBS (Editor of The NYG&B Record from 1987 through 2006) This index consists of three parts: compiled genealogies and family records, indexed by principal surnames; source records and collective genealogies, indexed by location; and other articles, indexed by subject. The abbreviation A/C refers to Additions and Corrections to prior articles, published in each October issue. Click to browse or search this index.
This index provides a browsable and searchable list of titles and authors of articles that have appeared in The Record from 1870 through 2012. It is especially useful for locating articles that have been published in multiple installments. N.B. Consult the Master Index 1870-1982 and the Subject Index 1983-2011 in order to find additions or corrections that were subsequently made to articles.
While anyone may search these indexes, only NYG&B members have online access to The Record. Join Now to enjoy full access to The Record and our other online resources for members. More information about The Record may be found here.
