Western New York Genealogy Conference
The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society and the Western New York Genealogical Society are pleased to host the Western New York Genealogy Conference on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the Embassy Suites Buffalo.
The conference celebrates Western New York as a unique place of shared history and community. Designed for researchers of all experience levels, this day-long event will feature six presenters and seven programs.

Images of the New York State death index, 1880-1956 are now online
The genealogy community received great news from Reclaim the Records this week - they have obtained images of the New York State death index from 1880-1956. Many are already available to browse online at Internet Archive - the collection will be completely uploaded by August 2017.
Images will also soon be available in the NYG&B eLibrary.

Members: Have you activated your new website account?
We recently launched a major update to our website, newyorkfamilyhistory.org, and all NYG&B members need to create a new account. Members can choose the same username and password as the old website, but will need to re-create their account in a few easy steps.
Our new website allows easier access to the NYG&B eLibrary, expert-authored articles in the New York Knowledge Base, and members-only webinar and video content. Members can also fully manage their membership and contact information in their personalized account management portal.
If you haven't set up your new account yet, please click the button below and enter the email associated with your membership. You will receive an "account recovery" email instantly. Clicking the link in that email will bring you to a form where you can choose your new username and password.
The Civil War Era records of the United States Sanitary Commission
At the recent NYG&B Luncheon at the National Genealogical Society conference this past May, Terry Koch-Bostic delivered a lecture on navigating the valuable records of the United States Sanitary Commission.

The United States Sanitary Commission was tasked with assessing the conditions Union soldiers operated in, as well as collecting and distributing supplementary aid donated by citizens.
This deep collection, which has only been easily accessible since 2013, captures the experience of many of our military and civilian Civil War ancestors.
Due to the overwhelming response to information about this little-known resource, we have put a comprehensive overview of this collection as an article in our New York Knowledge Base.
This Knowledge Base article goes into amazing detail on the contents of this massive collection, which is housed at the NYPL.
