As a Society Sponsor of RootsTech 2024 Conference, the NYG&B is delighted to be part of this important community that is working to empower people to remember their stories. At this year’s conference, February 29–March 2, we’re looking forward to engaging with all the genealogists, biographers, historians, and other participants attending. If you will be there in person, you’ll have multiple opportunities to connect with the NYG&B over the course of the 3-day conference:
- Come visit us at our booth, #727, anytime during the Exhibit Hall’s open hours to learn more about how we can help you discover your New York story through our extensive records and resources; educational programming; and landmark publications. And we invite everyone in the NYG&B community to stop by the booth on Friday, March 1, at 5:00 p.m. and catch up with our team.
- NYG&B President D. Joshua Taylor will lead two different sessions that will help you hone your research and analysis skills and put you on the right path for delving into your history and heritage:
- “Who is My Ancestor? Tracing Individuals with Similar Names” on February 29, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. EST (in person and online). This session will explore methods to tell various individuals apart, using examples from online profiles and ancestors from the New England and Midwestern states.
- “10 Top Tips for Finding Your New York State Ancestors” on March 1, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. EST (in-person only). This session will highlight the essential methods to use for finding your New York ancestors, including online and on-site resources.
- Ryan Gleason, NYG&B Vice President of Digital Strategy, will also lead a Sponsor Speaker Class, “Digitize New York: A New Approach to Statewide Historical Document Preservation for Archivists,” on February 28, 2024, at 6 p.m. EST (online) and February 29, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. EST (in-person only). Ryan will share updates on the NYG&B’s Digitize New York initiative, highlighting the mix of technology and grassroots tactics behind this major effort to save New York’s at-risk records.
For those attending virtually, be sure to visit our virtual booth in the online Expo Hall, where you can find a collection of resources and other opportunities to get involved with the NYG&B.
We hope to see you there!
