The NYG&B is excited to announce this year’s Fall Benefit Luncheon, which will be held at The Penn Club (in New York City). Our featured speaker will be Greg Melville, author of Over My Dead Body: Unearthing the Hidden History of America’s Cemeteries.
Greg Melville is a journalist, former editor at Men’s Journal, and tombstone tourist. His work has appeared in Outside, National Geographic, Slate, The New York Times, and many other top outlets. His new book, Over My Dead Body: Unearthing the Hidden History of America’s Cemeteries, is a wide-ranging history of cemeteries, places that have mirrored the passing eras in history but have also shaped it. Cemeteries have given birth to landscape architecture and famous parks, as well as influenced architectural styles.
The New York Times said in a review, “this clever, sensitive book gives us a new way to think about death, not as the final chapter, but as a window onto life in America.”
The Fall Benefit Luncheon supports the Digitize New York—the NYG&B’s initiative to preserve at-risk historical records from across the State and make them publicly accessible online. We hope you will join us to both advance our mission and enjoy this wonderful event!
