About Our Presenters
Annette Burke Lyttle owns Heritage Detective, LLC, providing professional genealogical services in research, education, and writing. She speaks on a variety of genealogical topics at the national, state, and local levels and loves helping people uncover and share their family stories. Annette has a master’s degree in English and a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She is coordinator of the Fall Virtual Intermediate Foundations course for the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy and leads best practices study groups for a number of organizations, providing in-depth education on the genealogical research process in an interactive setting. Annette is also president of the Association of Professional Genealogists and editor of The Florida Genealogist.
Since 2008 Dr. Thomas W. Jones, CG, CGL, FASG, FNGS, has coordinated “Writing and Publishing for Genealogists” at the Institute for Genealogy and Historical Research. From 2003 through 2018 he co-edited 64 issues of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, in which every article is thoroughly edited for clarity, conciseness, and consistency. He has written 31 articles published in peer-reviewed genealogical journals, 22 articles in other genealogical publications, and 4 book reviews. He has produced two textbooks with exercises, Mastering Genealogical Proof and Mastering Genealogical Documentation, and has written chapters for other textbooks for genealogists. Holder of two graduate degrees in education, Thomas teaches online and in person at genealogical conferences, institutes, seminars, and workshops locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Audiences and students consistently report learning much from his lectures and interactive classes.
An NYG&B member since 1993, Susan R. Miller oversees the NYG&B’s print and digital publications. She is the editor of the New York Researcher magazine and a managing editor of the New York Family History Research Guide and Gazetteer and the NYG&B county guide series. Susan also presents genealogical lectures on a national, regional, and local basis. Prior to her genealogical career, Susan worked in the sailing industry and for Emigrant Savings Bank in New York City for 23 years. A graduate of Brown University, she is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and several other genealogical and historical societies.
