BENNETT, James H. b abt 1856-58 New York
I've hit a brick wall when it comes to my 2x's Great Grandfather James H[owther] Bennett born about 1856-58 in New York. The first I see him is on the 1880 United States Federal Census, age 24, in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, living at 186 Freeman Street with his wife Lillian Elizabeth (b. abt 1857) and daughter Jesse (b abt 1879), both born in New York. He's recorded as an Upholster and I believe his father was an Upholster as well ---- also called a Car Trimmer. According to this Census his parents were both born in New York.
James and Lillian (recorded as Elizabeth on the 1900 United States Federal Census) are recorded as living with their children (Jessie b1879, James A. b1880, Elizabeth b1884, Mable b1886, Jennie b1888, and Lillian b26Jan1891 (my Great Grandmother), at 119 Race Street, Elizabeth Ward 6, Union, New Jersey.
My 2X's Great Grandmother Lillie Elizabeth Bennett (nee Robb) I suspect was interred in New Jersey between 1900 and 1910 because she doesn't show up on any Census after 1900. James H. Bennett sees to have stayed in Elizabeth Ward 6, Union, New Jersey likely until his death as I see him there on the 1910 and 1920 United States Federal Census.
I'd like to know where James H[owther] Bennett and Lillie Elizabeth Bennett (nee Robb) are buried in hopes that I can find out the names of their parents and siblings.
My Great Grandmother (their daughter) was Salvation Army and came up to Ontario, Canada were she met and married my Great Grandfather, Gilbert Charles Hawes Whitlock. So, I believe their religious denomination was either Anglican or Salvation Army.
Kindest regards,
Jennifer Thackwray
2X's Great Granddaughter of James H[Howther] Bennett (Upholster/Car Trimmer) and Lillie Elizabeth Bennett nee Robb
