Culver Family

John D. Culver, born about 1796 in probably western New York (Ithaca, etc.). He married Sabra Sybil Ball (Born 1796, possibly in Vermont or New York State). Their first three or four children were born in New York State (not sure where, but most likely western New York). They then moved to Warren, Warren County, PA and had seven more children. The Culver family is quite large and it seems I have exhausted all of the avenues to learn exactly who John D. Culver's parents were. It's like he just dropped out of the sky, landed in Warren, PA and went on about his business. I know the family history from John D. forward, but nothing in his past, like parents and siblings. Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction or suggest a new route for me to travel. This week my niece and I traveled from Pittsburgh, PA to Warren, PA and visited the Warren County Historical Society and Warren County Courthouse and came up with nothing. They have a copy of a deed from 1829 when he sold property - but no record whatsoever of him ever purchasing the property (I already had a copy of this exact deed). We checked cemetery records, church records, genealogies, obituaries (although there were very few), birth records, death records, marriage records. Whew! What's left? We do know that he died in Warren, PA on Feb. 2, 1848 and I have a copy of his will. I would have no idea where to start looking in western New York. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
