Denn Family of Orange, Barton, Tioga, Chemung Counties
I have been doing research to solve a family mystery. I received results from an Ancestry DNA test and it confirmed my research information. I am looking for ANY information on Christopher Denn (1761-1839) and Alfred Denn (date of birth varies - died 1884).
Alfred Denny (from Cass County / St. Joseph County, Michigan) is my great grandfather. His life before Michigan and his death / disappearance has always been a TOTAL mystery to the family. It came to my attention that there was a belief that Alfred's biological mother was Maria Rarick Jaqua (died in Fabius, Michigan). My DNA results confirmed that Maria is my 2nd great grandmother. My DNA results ALSO point to Christopher Denn (1761-1839) as my 2nd great grandfather.
The wills of Christopher Denn, his wife (Hannah), and Edwin Denn (1792-1883) all list Alfred Denn as heir. Hannah Denn would have been MUCH to old to be Alfred's biological mother, but he was listed as her child in her will.
I am trying to find out if the Alfred Denn from New York is the SAME Alfred "Denny" who is my great grandfather from Michigan. There are periods of time when the New York Alfred was NOT in New York. And there are periods of time when the Michigan Alfred Denny was NOT in Michigan. The only problem I see timewise is the birth of Mary Dell Denn (Alfred Denn's daughter). She was born when Alfred Denny would have been in Michigan. BUT... I have learned that not everything is at it appears. If there is a possibility that Mary Dell Denn is NOT the biological child of Alfred Denn of New York, then the probability of the two Alfreds being the same person is strong.
Can anyone HELP???
