NY Surrogate Court

Genealogical Inquiries

Hello,
I am trying to locate records for a 1905 NY Surrogate court case. The Judge of Charity (or Commissioner) was James Mcinerney from Brooklyn City case# 2131 State Case #4168. The case is for my paternal grandfather "William Kerning". I called the court a dozen times asking the same question in different ways but they say to call back or "the Mormons scanned most of those records". I then did a zoom session with FamilySearch but they could not find anything on the case.

I got this information from one of the Dominican Sisters who ran the orphanage. Here is the reply they sent me: "The records we have are for Willard Kerning: Birth: March 17, 1903 Admitted to care: April 28, 1905 Parents: Willard and Mary Brennan Kerning Baptism: Church on Melrose St. (perhaps, Brooklyn; church is not named Confirmation: St. Kilian, Farmingdale, May 1, 1913 Discharge from care: February 28, 1921 There is a note that indicates both parents were deceased. As you are most likely aware both Sorrowful Mother Home and Nazareth Trade School no longer exist. Again, my apologies for the delay in responding to your request."

Any help in locating these records would be greatly appreciated.

Dan
