SP is one of the oldest genealogical societies in the U.S., founded in 1892. We have more than 250 collections, with about 200 individual collections available for viewing on our website, the largest number of the state genealogical societies bordering the commonwealth.
We also have several very large collections available for onsite research, including two recent acquisitions: the papers of Kenneth W. Milano, historian of Kensington and Fishtown, and the papers of the Castor Family Association.
Among our newest initiatives are The Pennsylvania Genealogical Almanac, a member benefit this year when published in the coming months, and next year’s virtual Pennsylvania’s Genealogy Event (PaGE) conference from 5–12 August 2023.
We provide assistance to people seeking guidance with their family history research. And we are now a FamilySearch Affiliate Library, which means that people can visit the free FamilySearch room to access collections not available through home access to FamilySearch.
Our GSP Library is also available to visitors, who pay a daily fee, and to members, who have free admission. If you would like to join GSP, you can go to the membership page on our website.
Also available to members is the opportunity to join our First Families organization. We have several categories of membership based on when ancestors arrived in Pennsylvania. You can learn more by going to our First Families page on the GSP website.
GSP relies on its many dedicated volunteers. We hope that you will consider joining one of our committees to work with programs, publications, collections, and our website. If you would like to volunteer, contact Angie Indik, GSP office manager, at info@genpa.org.
