Preserving Your New York Story Series
Family history is a fascinating and personal way for everyone to better understand who they are and how our past has shaped us. Genealogy also helps reveal and strengthen connections between individuals and communities. But how do you get started?
This free series offers sessions for people to digitally preserve their own family history records as well as programming for tracing their family history and connecting with their past. Whether someone is just starting out on their search or needs a refresher on the basics, participants will gain the fundamental building blocks for conducting family history research and preserving their New York story.
NYG&B Preservation Days
Part of our mission is to preserve and make accessible New York family history records. Now it's your turn! Anyone in the New York City area is invited to come in person to our New York City Digitization Center to digitally preserve their own family history records for free, using our state-of-the-art Copibook scanner. We’ll provide you with a free thumb drive with your stored digitized records to take home.
For New York City residents who have accessibility issues and are unable to visit our offices in person, please email digitizeny@nygbs.org to learn more about a free mail-in option for digitally preserving your family history records.
Preserving Your New York Story Programming
Join us in person or virtually for any of these 30-minute sessions that provide the key essentials for beginning your genealogy journey and preserving family stories. Each program will include a presentation on the basics for getting started, a guest speaker to share resources and tips for researching specific cultural/ethnic backgrounds, and a live Q&A portion. These programs are free, but registration is required. Please check back frequently to see further topics as they are added.
