[F10] The Erie Canal and the Opening of the West
Use this thread to discuss The Erie Canal and the Opening of the West, presented by Annette Burke Lyttle.
Session Description
The Erie Canal revolutionized 19th-century travel across New York to the Midwest. It made settlement of the Old Northwest Territories possible by providing an efficient means of exporting agricultural products to the markets and ports of the east. But it was also one of the most challenging and fascinating projects ever undertaken in America.

Recorded Session?
I really regret that I couldn't watch this today. I'm hoping that a recording of this presentation will be available at some point, or maybe it can be given again in the future. I would love to see it.

I really enjoyed your presentation Annette! I wonder if my ancestors moved away from the Mohawk up to Jefferson County to get away from the busyness of the Erie canal! I have another distant relative who came from Shropshire to work on the Cornwall canal along the St. Lawrence River. Have you come across any information about these canals?
Cornwall canal
