Fantastic news for New York City researchers!
Images of some New York City vital record certificates are available online from FamilySearch.
Navigate to the New York City wiki on FamilySearch.org and look for collections with “certificates” or “registers” in the title. On many web browsers you can use CTRL + F to search within the page (CMD + F on Mac computers).
Click the link next to the collection name, and scroll down to the film notes. If there is a camera icon in the format column, digital images will appear for that microfilm number.
To access the digital images, you will need to do so from one of FamilySearch's many family history center locations.
Another way to browse these records is to search the FamilySearch catalog for author “New York (New York). Department of Health” - then, look for the 16 record sets from New York City and the six from Brooklyn. All of these have digitized images available online.
A special thanks to Reclaim the Records for spotting these newly available records! Happy researching on this Labor Day weekend. We’ll be back online Tuesday after our return from the FGS conference (Pittsburgh).
