Tioga County is located in the south-central part of New York State, along the border with Pennsylvania. Tioga County is bordered by Tompkins and Cortland counties in the north, Broom County to the east and Chemung County to the west. It is bordered by Susquehanna and Bradford counties in Pennsylvania to the south. The population of the county in the 2010 census was 51,125. The land area of the county is 519 square miles. The County Seat is Owego.

Tioga County is also home to great local repositories. The Candor Public Library, for instance, houses family histories, Candor Chronicle 1800s–1950s, New York State Civil War records, and local history books.
