Family history is a fascinating and personal way for everyone to better understand who they are and how our past has shaped us. Genealogy also helps to reveal and strengthen connections between individuals and communities. But how do you get started?

Join the NYG&B and guest speaker Luis Ariel Rivera for a look at the key essentials for beginning your genealogy journey; resources and tips specific to conducting Puerto Rican family history research; and how you can preserve your own New York family stories.

The in-person and online broadcasts of the program will be in English; English and Spanish videos will be available on the NYG&B website after the event.

Luis Ariel Rivera, a native of the Bronx, New York, has been a professional genealogist since 2020, but has been researching his family's roots in Puerto Rico since 2004. His expertise lies in Puerto Rican research while also researching in Latin America, the Spanish and French Caribbean, and Western/Southern Europe. Luis earned a Certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University and has also studied with ProGen Study Groups, GenProof Study Groups, and the CDG (Certification Discussion Group) series with Jill Morelli. Luis Ariel Rivera, oriundo del Bronx, Nueva York, comenzó su carrera como genealogista profesional en 2020, pero ha estado investigando sus raíces puertorriqueñas desde 2004. Su especialidad se concentra en la genealogía puertorriqueña, aunque también investiga en Latinoamérica, el Caribe francés y español y en Europa Occidential/Europa del Sur.
