Force/Vorce Surname Wives Index

Known as the Vorce Index to Wives, this collection—digitized by NYG&B volunteers—compiles typewritten index cards with the maiden names of Force/Vorce wives.

This collection was created by the NYG&B’s Royden Woodward Vosburgh. According to Vosburgh's obituary in the April 1932 issue of the NYG&B Record (Vol. 63. No. 2), he was working on the genealogy of the Force/Vorce family until “he was taken ill in September, 1928.” Not much is known about when this project was started. Vosburgh was hired by the NYG&B in 1914, therefore he likely worked on it between 1914 and 1928.

This collection is text searchable—searches entered from this page will search text extracted from the index cards. Researchers can also browse by clicking the waypoint links below, which will take you to the beginning of each section you are interested in reading.

Please note that due to the nature of the scanned images, the quality of extracted text may vary from card to card.

Collection Category: Index|Collection Type: Text & Images|Location: All NY Counties

Each card contains:

  • Name
  • Generation
  • Birth and marriage information
  • Death information
  • Known children and parents
  • Reference numbers to sources that remain unidentified

The cards are organized alphabetically. Letters I, and X are not available because there are no surnames that start with those letters. It should be noted that if readers are searching for a name that starts with "Mc,” there is a section below that separates the "Mc" surnames from the "M" surnames.

Researchers can find more names in the miscellaneous section. These index cards are alphabetically organized by the given name.
