Presented By Ryan Gleason, NYG&B Vice President, Digital Services, and Kalyn Loewer, NYG&B Manager of Digital Collections

The NYG&B’s Church of the Transfiguration records are the newest, large-scale, searchable edition to our online collections. Now a national landmark, the Church of the Transfiguration is one of Manhattan’s most fascinating Episcopalian parishes, with a long history of serving the marginalized populations of New York City and beyond. With tens of thousands of marriage records collected, the Church of the Transfiguration claims to have performed the most marriages in New York City—resulting in a wealth of materials to explore.

In this webinar, Ryan Gleason, NYG&B Vice President, Digital Services, and Kalyn Loewer, NYG&B Manager of Digital Collections, will debut this important online collection, reviewing its components and how to search the records. They will also share what to expect in the coming months from this ongoing collaboration to digitally conserve these records and make them accessible to researchers.

The NYG&B has been partnering with the Church of the Transfiguration since 2022 as part of the NYG&B’s Digitize New York statewide initiative to preserve and make available at-risk historical documents.

On May 15, 2–3 p.m., the NYG&B is also hosting a panel discussion (in person and livestreamed) to talk about the collaboration and how this partnership can be a model for other organizations to participate in Digitize New York. Learn more and register here.

Read a blog post by Kalyn Loewer, NYG&B Manager of Digital Collections, that examines the evolving, collaborative process taken with the Church of the Transfiguration to preserve and make accessible these records.
