In May 2024 the NYG&B launched New Netherland Settlers—a groundbreaking, multiyear project to develop detailed, peer-reviewed sketches of all the people residing in New Netherland prior to 1664, including settlers, those who did not settle, free and enslaved individuals, Indigenous people, and the many others who contributed to the diverse, multilingual dynamics of New Netherland. Individual sketches will be published online in an interactive, interlinked format as completed on the NYG&B’s website while publication volumes comprising numerous sketches will be published as printed volumes over time.
Join D. Joshua Taylor, NYG&B President and CEO, and Jen Davis, NYG&B’s Vice President, Advancement and Membership, for updates on New Netherland Settlers, including a look at some sample sketches. Registrants will also learn more about the information architecture that will make the sketches user-friendly, hear about our exciting partnership with the Holland Society of New York, and find out how to get involved in this seminal project.
This is a free in-person event as part of NYG&B Week, but registration is required. See a full list of NYG&B Week programming.
