NYG&B Digitization Day
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST | In Person at the NYG&B Office, New York, NY
As part of the NYG&B’s Digitize New York initiative, our digital services team has been working to preserve and make accessible as many at-risk documents as possible. Now it's your turn! You are invited to come in person to our New York City Digitization Center for 30-minute slots to digitally preserve your own records for free, using our state-of-the-art Copibook scanner. We’ll provide you with a free thumb drive with your stored digitized records to take home.

Genealogy 101: Starting Your Family History Journey

Join Stacey Bell, President of the Afro American Historical and Genealogical Society - Jean Sampson Scott Greater New York Chapter and D. Joshua Taylor, NYG&B President and CEO, for a session on the essentials for tracing your family history and connecting to your past. Whether you’re just starting out on your family history search or need a refresher on the basics, this session will set you up with the fundamental building blocks for family history research.

Digitize New York: A Partnership in Preservation

Join Jen Davis, NYG&B’s Vice President, Advancement and Membership; Kalyn Loewer, NYG&B’s Digitial Collections Manager, and Ruth Huggler, NYG&B member and volunteer to learn more about an exciting and productive digitization partnership that kicked off our Digitize New York efforts at our Central New York Digitization Center in Syracuse, which became fully operational in August 2024.

New Netherland Settlers: What’s on the Horizon

Joshua Taylor, NYG&B President and CEO, and Jen Davis, NYG&B’s Vice President, Advancement and Membership, for updates on New Netherland Settlers—the NYG&B’s multiyear project to develop a complete genealogical sketch of all the people residing in New Netherland prior to 1664. See some sample sketches, learn about the information architecture that will make the sketches user-friendly, hear about our exciting partnership with the Holland Society of New York, and find out how you get can get involved in this groundbreaking project.

Searching the NYG&B Collections

Join Susan R. Miller, NYG&B’s Director, Publications, for a look at the breadth of the NYG&B’s collections, both in the NYG&B Online Collections and the physical collections held at the New York Public Library (NYPL). In this session you’ll learn some tips for using indexes to access the online collections. Plus, we will explore the types of materials at the NYPL and how to access them.
